Even on a sweltering hot summers day, that couldn’t discourage over 500 young kids from attending a cricket coaching clinic with Michael Clarke himself, and his team of coaches.
The day involved children aged 6 – 16 participating in multiple skills activities and some games at the end of the day whereby Clarke himself and his team of coaches would run the sessions. The kids were all given a goodie bag thanks to Chemist Warehouse, and they all had an opportunity to meet Clarke and get his autograph.
It’s an area that Clarke is very passionate about and hopes to grow post-retirement, with the aim to build the clinics up and run them interstate. Clarke is excited about getting the next generation involved in sport, especially cricket and ensuring they lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
“I love seeing kids being active and being able to play the game that I’ve always loved. I’m a little bit biased, but I think cricket’s the greatest game in the world,” said Clarke
“(This clinic) is just a sample to see how we go, but I’m amazed that we’ve got 500 kids here and in this heat as well.”
Clarke said he was impressed with the talent that attended the clinic, especially the number of girls who attended and their high skill level.
It was a great day all round.
